With the release of their new album Culture Shock, Animal Farm has been making waves in the hip-hop industry and collaborating and opening shows for well known acts. They were recently able to speak with Rachel David and chat about their beginnings, their future, and their new album. The four members were able to speak with Bestfan as they were at home in their local city of Portland, Oregon. Animal Farm is a band that formed “quite naturally” when they described it, as they all found each other and all wanted to form a band.
On their single “Test of Time” they teamed up with hip hop heavyweight Talib Kweli and made a fantastic single. To have such an well recognized artist collaborate with them on this track, one of the band members had made a strong connection with Talib when he was visiting Portland. While promoting at the nightclub where Talib played, Animal Farm made the effort after the show to keep in touch with the artist. So once he arrived back in Portland for another visit the four members and Talib were able to get into the studio and record together.
Sharing the stage with other notable acts like Common, Redman, Method Man, Wiz Khalifa, and The Wu-Tang Clan, Animal Farm was quick to answer that they had the best time on stage with Method Man, and Redman. As for people that they would like to perform with in the future, Animal Farm said that “they feel very blessed to have already been given the opportunity to perform with some of the notable acts in the hip hop industry”. Down the road they would love to perform with Nas or even the comedian Carrot Top.
In terms of their own performances, Animal Farm stated that they believe they are different from other hip-hop acts purely because they bring such an immense amount of live energy to the stage. They truly love interacting with the crowd, and they have no back-up vocals performing with them, like other artists today. But because they have someone who sings and raps at the same time, they also believe that this gives them an advantage over the other hip hop groups!
And with their new album Culture Shock that dropped on May 17th, Bestfan wanted to know what their fans could expect with the new tracks. Animal Farm felt that their new album will be quite well rounded, “there is lots of variety and we included a little bit of everything” for their fans to enjoy.
Bestfan loved having the opportunity to speak with Animal Farm and it was too bad we could not meet them in person, but stay tuned to find out more news about Animal Farm and when they will be visiting Canada.
