The song came together in a whirlwind of activity. Foster and A-Trak put the basic track together over the course of a few days, then sent it off to Kimbra (who recorded her track on a laptop in an airport in Germany) so she could add her vocal flourishes. “This is one of the most insane songs I’ll ever work on in my life,” Foster told Entertainment Weekly. “Kimbra was on tour for a ton of it, I was on tour for a lot of it, and A-Trak was as well while we were trying to do the song and shoot the video. The schedules were hard. We worked on this track in 21 cities over four continents, which has got to be some kind of record.”
The video was conceived by directors the Daniels . “I was totally blown away,” Kimbra said. “It was way more physical than what I’ve done in videos before, so I was pumped. When I saw the leotard, I was a little bit worried. I’ve had revealing video clothes before, but this was a new level of revealing. The great thing about it was that there was a lyrical direction we were alluding to in the song, and the direction of the video really seemed to tie in well. That was kind of cool.”
The song supports Converse‘s Three Artists: One Song series and new seasonal footwear colors collection available exclusively at Journey’s locations nationwide this spring.
