It’s been two long years since we last heard anything from the Vampire Weekend boys, but Baio, the band’s bass guitarist and backing vocals, has officially released a three track solo EP: Sunburn. Baio took advantage of the break between albums and sparse concert schedule by DJing and trying his hand at mixing during his spare time. Drawing on his trip down Mexico way with his girlfriend where he familiarized himself sunburns, he pursued his hobby of mixing and we are now hearing the results. The entire EP, which can be listened to on Sound Cloud and bought on iTunes, is described on the Vampire Weekend Facebook page as: “…three tracks of tropical electronica inspired by a curious case of Sunburn in Mexico and features Chilean underground popstar Matias Aguayo on the song ‘Tanto’”. While the tracks were released in May the video for the first song on the EP “Sunburn Modern” came out on Wednesday and it could not have been more perfectly timed. The video appeared on the first day of summer, and both it and song are drenched in sun and created for long hot summer days. The video itself follows a mannequin on her way to baste in a sunny park where Baio himself makes an appearance to rub sunscreen on her back. Take a listen to the track below and let the steel drums take you away from your bedroom and put you instead on a hot tropical beach, ice cold drink in hand, of course.
