Taylor Swift has done it again! She released her new single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” from her forthcoming, just annocuned new album, Red, last night at midnight, and it beat Lady Gaga’s record for the fastest song to reach iTunes’ #1.
In an interview that aired Tuesday on Good Morning America, Swift, 22, admitted that the song is based on a real relationship and a breakup that just wouldn’t stick.
While recording with songwriters Max Martin and Shellback, she said, “This guy walks in who is a friend of my ex’s and starts talking about how he’s heard we’re going to get back together. And that was not the case. … So I start telling them the story: break up, get back together, break up, get back together – just, ugh, the worst! And I picked up the guitar and Max said, ‘This is what we’re writing.’
So which one one of Swift’s ex’s do you think the song is about? Our guess is John Mayer, based on the “indie record” reference in the lyrics.
