10 Nice Songs to Get You Through the Week (AKA It’s Only Wednesday)

Mondays are hard, Tuesdays are harder, but Wednesdays mark hump day! That means we’re pretty close to that long-awaited Friday! Is there anything worse than suffering through those agonizing first 2 days after a relaxing weekend and then realizing that you’re not even halfway done your work week?  Or maybe you’re alright with all days of the week and just enjoy listening to music. You’ve come to the right place either way.

1. “This is the New Year” – A Great Big World

You might know A Great Big World from their collaboration with Christina Aguilera on “Say Something,” but that song is more for cuddling and will appear on a future playlist related to snuggles and hot chocolate. ‘This is the New Year” is obviously motivational and happy and everything that you need to be on a Wednesday because you’re only halfway through your week.

2. “Happy” – Pharrell

First off, this is from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. Secondly, this is from the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. CLAP ALONG.

3. “Something Good Can Work” – Two Door Cinema Club

I’ve been on a Two Door Cinema Club kick recently because one of my co-workers has been playing them over and over. I love adding them to any mix that’s necessary for me to get pumped or excited. This is a band I’d love to see live.

4. “Long Live” – Taylor Swift

A playlist is not complete unless an upbeat, happy Taylor Swift song is on it. This is one of the many from her repertoire that is not about relationships, thank you very much.  Here’s a touch of fantasy and magic.

5. “We Can’t Stop” – Miley Cyrus

Obviously. For full effects of this song, listen to it at least once every day.

6. “Let It Go” – Idina Menzel (or Demi’s version!)

What better way to adapt to the current weather than with a song from Disney’s most recent smash hit Frozen? Both Idina Menzel and Demi Lovato offer awe-inspiring renditions of the song – whether you’re feeling more Broadway or more Top 40, both artists do a great job of singing this beautiful song. Hopefully it warms you up!

7. “After the Disco” – Broken Bells

I picked this song up from Starbucks and it’s absolutely magical. I think I’ll keep an eye for Broken Bells‘ new album out in early February.  It’s something that’s worth listening to – I know I’ve been addicted since I downloaded it.  Favourite lyric: Do what you want / Do what you will / Don’t tell me it’s not our time.

8. “Pocketful of Sunshine” – Natasha Bedingfield

Put some sunshine in your pocket like Natasha Bedingfield and you’ll be OK.

9. “Keep Your Head Up” – Andy Grammer

Do it.

10. “Happily” – One Direction

Say what you will, but this is one of my favourite songs off the Midnight Memories album. One Direction offers a slightly different style of music and this is just one of the great songs off this gem.

Have a good week!
