For the second time in his career, the talented Childish Gambino rapped his way into Toronto. The last time he came to Toronto, it was for his album Camp and also partly for his mixtape Royalty, the concert was fairly standard, but this time around, he really amped it up. I mean, it was so good that I was torn trying to choose between his show and Kanye’s most recent concert.
It was held at the Sound Academy, which was sold out two nights in a row! The concert mainly focused on his album Because The Internet which dropped in January, but he didn’t fail to leave out classics from his previous releases like Camp, EP, and Royalty. All of his older work was combined into one giant song that ended the show perfectly.
This concert wasn’t only about the music, it was about technology. The rapper released a “Deep Web App” for android and iPhone so that the audience could interact with the stage by drawing doodles or writing messages during the pre-show, but don’t expect art, there’s usually only dicks that get on screen. The setlist was set up perfectly so that every track flowed into the next one and it kept the audience going with every beat, I mean it was so good that not only did fans lose their voices, but Gambino himself had a scratchy throat at the end of it all. Needless to say, I’m already waiting for him to come back to town
