Duane Gibson, better known as D.O. is a man with many titles under his belt – a true showing of the Canadian rapper “defying the odds.”
Hailing all the way from Nova Scotia, D.O. has become internationally certified as an artist having toured in North America, Europe and Asia, and broke a Guinness World Record for the longest freestyle lasting about nine hours! I mean how crazy is that!? The rapper also doubles as a motivational speaker and an executive at Northstarr Entertainment, Northstarr being the title of his debut album in 2007.
D.O. is getting ready to release his fourth studio album, Down Home on April 22, which was produced by fellow east-coaster Classified. “This project was fun for me because for awhile I wasn’t sure if I still wanted to do music. Now that I have a couple of kids it’s tough to get away like I used to,” D.O. said in a press release. The album was inspired by his connection to Nova Scotia, hence the title Down Home and the intro on Classified’s Handshakes and Middle Fingers. Canadian heavy-hitters such as Saukrates, Joell Ortiz, Chad Hatcher, Jake Boyd, J-Bru, Maestro Fresh Wes, Mic Boyd, and Spesh K are featured on the upcoming album.
The lead single, “Capture the Moonlight” featuring Saukrates and Joell Ortiz has such a great flow and sets the tone for Down Home (hear it below). In the lyrics you can hear the struggles of the day-to-day grind, but it pushes you to keep going. If you go visit D.O.’s website (http://www.iamdo.ca ) the header “stay driven” ties it all back to his motivational speaking. It also helps that the song has a smooth hook that you’ll remember by the end of the song.
