For some, the wait might have been too long, but Future is back with his second album Honest that was available as of Tuesday. It features dope collaborations from mega stars like Pharrell, Kanye West and Canada’s own Drake.
What I like is that the rapper put together an album that can appeal to many audiences. If you aren’t a big fan of rap music you can listen to “Honest,” which features bits of rapping, but is backed by a smooth rhythm. The same goes for “Blood, Sweat, Tears.” In the lyrics you can hear the artist pleading with the listener, letting them know how much work he puts into his work to be where he is. It’s such a great song with a message that I think people can take away and apply to their own lives.
Though, if rap is your thing I would suggest checking out “Benz Friendz (Watchutola)” featuring Andre 3000, who will be at this year’s Osheaga Music Festival in Montreal as a part of Outkast. It’s easy to listen to and kind of reminds me of rap back in the day. The simplicity of the track is something that we don’t tend to see in rap nowadays so it’s nice to get that taste once in a while.
But my ultimate favourite off of this album would have to be “I Won” featuring Kanye West (check it out below). The track is so perfect it’s hard for me to find words. I’m assuming that much of the song is inspired by Future’s fiancee Ciara who announced earlier in the year that she was pregnant. Also, if you listen closely to Yeezy’s verse you can hear the direct references to Kim Kardashian and some of her family members as “trophies.”
