Electro-pop duo Okapi Sun released their debut album, Techno Prisoners last Tuesday and it features one of their new singles, “Judy Baby.”
The dance track tells a story – one of heartbreak and vulnerability in a way that contains more depth and soul than would be expected from a song of its genre. Although it’s not an intricate tale, it’s something that’s very uncommonly mixed in with electronic or synth-pop beats found in comparable EDM songs.
Even the album cover represents Okapi Sun’s contrasting retro and EDM sounds with feminine vocals by showing a split of duo Leo and Dallas’ dissimilar and diverse appearances while coming together harmoniously. The song, along with the cover, captures the duo’s core concepts of unifying the world’s mixture of cultures, values, and people – all under one bright Okapi sun.
The album was released by Phaedra Records and produced by Ethan Allen (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club) and Grammy winner Neal H. Pogue (Janelle Monae, Outcast).
