The eighteen year old Raury has been building quite the rep lately, capturing fan’ and artists’ attention across the globe. Inspired by the likes of Kid Cudi and Andre 3000, his musical styling are a hybrid of various genres from gospel, pop, folk, soul, hip-hop and indie. The young artist is multi-talented as he is both a singer/songwriter and a self-taught guitarist. Recently, the young talent has caught the attention of Kanye West, who flew him out to meet him, and singer Lorde reached out to share how much she’s been enjoying his recently released tracks via Twitter. He was also picked up as an opening act along with Kid Cudi and Childish Gambino for Outkast‘s “ATLast” festival in his neighboring city Atlanta in September.
After some built-up anticipation, Raury decides to share his finished project, Indigo Child to show his fans and non-believers what it’s all about. The album underlines his teenage angst and his youth-inspired rebellion. Raury pursues bold and new ideas and challenge various standards in music by including songs breaking the seven minute mark, interludes of actual arguments between him and his mother, and guitar solos. The project features nine tracks and can be downloaded for free from his official website, but there’s a very unique catch – for the free download you have to play an accompanying game and beat a score of 1500. Are you up for the challenge?
Raury’s pursuit to break all boundaries is evident in his music, marketing and personality. With time and experience, his music will only magnify his daring, different, eclectic sound. Among all the interviews and music, I get the feeling that he isn’t about the fame, it’s something more – it’s about making history. That’s why this young talent has great potential to be something bigger than music. You can follow him at @Raury on Twitter or Instagram.
