Mary J. Blige shares emotional ‘London Sessions’ single, “Whole Damn Year”

Just a few weeks after dropping her exciting Disclosure-produced buzz track “Right Now,” Mary J. Blige slows things down with the premiere of “Whole Damn Year“! The track is set to serve as the first official single off her upcoming thirteenth studio album The London Sessions, which is scheduled to be released on December 2 via Capitol Records.

Produced and written alongside Naughty Boy and Emeli Sandé, “Whole Damn Year” is a emotional and stripped back ballad that has Mary baring her heart and soul as she reflects on a bad breakup that left her emotionally scarred. “It took a whole damn year to repair my body / It’s been a bad five years / Gone take a long, long year for me to trust somebody,” Mary sings on minimalistic piano-driven production. It’s certainly not the massive dance track I was hoping for but its undeniably an affective number that brings you back to her roots. The Queen of Hip Hop Soul has still got it folks!
