Walt Disney Animation has just announced their newest animated flick called Moana!
Jon Musker and Ron Clements (a.k.a. the geniuses behind Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog) are set to direct the female-centered, folklore-style story that is set for release in late 2016. “Creating Moana is one of the great thrills of our career. It’s a big adventure set in this beautiful world of Oceania,” Clements said in an interview.
According to a press release, the plot of Moana is as follows: “In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”
Moana is the first feature-length animated film to take place on an island location since Lilo & Stitch back in 2002.
