Whaaaat?! Zoe Sugg, a.k.a. Zoella on the interwebs, has outsold J.K. Rowling by way of her first novel?
The answer is yes! Sugg’s debut novel, Girl Online, has become “the fastest selling ever,” according to PEOPLE.
Girl Online sold more than 78,000 copies in its first week, making it the “fastest-selling novel for a first-time author in the U.K.,” according to Nielsen BookScan.
If outselling Rowling’s debut novel wasn’t enough, Sugg also sold more than five times the number of copies Fifty Shades of Gray sold in its first week.
“It’s such an amazing feeling,” Sugg told The Guardian after hearing the news. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has bought a copy of Girl Online. I love that so many of my viewers are enjoying the book!”
Girl Online is “a modern-day Notting Hill for teens”, according to Penguin Books, where “an ordinary 15-year-old girl’s relationship with an American pop star goes viral as her anonymous blog is exposed to the world.”
