Yesterday marked the release of Joshua Radin’s sixth studio album titled Onward and Sideways. Now, you may recognize him from a couple of places. For starters, his song “Winter” has been featured in the hit show Scrubs. Radin’s music has also been in many other TV shows, movies and commercials. Adding to his star power Radin was sought out personally by Ellen DeGeneres in 2008 to perform at her wedding to Portia De Rossi.
The story of how the album came to be is quite remarkable, too. Joshua Radin didn’t actually know what he was going to write about and, in fact, took a trip to Sweden to get away from music. Suddenly, while laying down sideways on his hotel bed, it hit him, and that’s where the significance of the title comes into play. He says that he wrote the album to convince a woman that he knew to fall in love with him. If she doesn’t fall instantly in love she’s crazy because I’m sure it’s every girl’s dream to have songs dedicated to them.
As for the actual tracks, I can’t get enough. Right from the beginning it pulls you in with “We’ll Keep Running Forever” and continues to build upon itself. I’m also a fan of “Let Our Sun Shine Down.” It has a great sound and has a female voice in some parts serving as a duet. There’s a mix of both slow, soothing songs and ones that are upbeat. That’s an important element in the sense that there’s something for everyone to listen to.
If you’re a fan of Joshua Radin and his new album, he will be going on a tour across Canada in February that you should check out!
