Interview With: Tara Holloway

Vanessa Francon chatted with Canadian singe Tara Holloway after the release of her Little Ghosts album.

For this album, I heard you travelled to different cities and collaborated with many songwriters. Which city was the most inspirational for you to write in? Why?
Every city is inspirational to me 🙂 I have spent some good time in Nashville, Vancouver, Austin, Ottawa, Victoria, Toronto and LA. And sincerely I think everywhere is awesome 🙂 But I suppose it’s the people that make them all homes away for homes.

Do you have a favourite spot to work on songs? If so, where is it?
Not at all- I’m definitely not a regimented person, and have no writing schedules (unless I’ve planned a co-writing session!) I’m comfortable writing everywhere I’ve been so far.

What has been the biggest career highlight since your latest album was released?
The release party at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa! Just way too much fun. I had a huge band, and the sound and lighting was wicked! It was a real birth of a thing!

It seems like you’ve been all over Canada! What is the best and worst part about touring?

I have been from Victoria to St. John’s, many many times over- but have not been up North yet to the territories- that is a desire of mine for sure! The best parts of touring are the travel, the road trip feeling that is continual on tour, the scenery, ’cause wow Canada is friggin beautiful everywhere. The tough stuff is the lack of sleep that can and will happen, because of a late-night finish and an early start with long-drive days. Other than that- it is pretty great!

Since you’re home town is Ottawa, what would you tell someone who’s never been there before to do/visit?

Go directly to Shanghai Restaurant, as they are a certain heartbeat of culture in this city- and they know what’s going on around town. Their food is the best and they have a ton of arts/culture/and queer events happening there all the time. Oh, also I play weekly at Atomic Rooster! Hahah on Bank Street, Wednesdays 8 p.m. -11 p.m.

Since I am from BestFan, I want to know what YOU are a “best fan” of.
Hayden, Sia, Esthero, Ambre McLean, Abigail Lapelle, Robyn Dell’Unto, Rhonda Stakich, Leela Gilday (I could go on forever)!
