Fans kicked up the sand on a balmy Friday night at TD Echo Beach for A$AP Rocky and Tyler, The Creator. The ‘Rocky and Tyler’ lineup also featured support from the ever eccentric Danny Brown and up-and-comer Vince Staples.
Holding on to the remaining warm nights of the year, the crowd was ready to turn up on the pseudo beach. Through and through each set, the energy was dialled up to a constant 10. With the food trucks lining the back of the grounds and a solid lineup, last night felt more like a music festival than a regular rap show (but then again, what’s regular in hip-hop?).
Vince Staples got the crowd vibing with tracks like “Norf Norf” and “Blue Suede.” Danny Brown exploded on stage with his narcotic party anthems like “Smokin & Drinkin” and “Dip.”
Tyler, The Creator wasted no time in gracing every corner of the stage with his spastic dance moves. With Taco and Jasper on stage with him, the Odd Future collective corralled the audience in chanting “FUCK THAT, GOLF WANG!” at ear-shattering decibels.
Before A$AP Rocky and three of his mob members came out for an hour-long set, sweeping black fabric was pulled off metal structures to reveal a rousing two-level stage design. The way the A$AP mob dashed across the stage and the way the stage lights shot across the sky was reminiscent of a Super Smash Bros. battle stage as TD Echo Beach got “Wild For The Night.”
