If you haven’t already heard of shy kids (yes that’s right, no capitals!) before, get to know them NOW! Because they are one of Toronto’s best kept secret.
You might know this dynamic trio from their award winning short film Noah, that won Best Short Film for TIFF in 2013 and gained international acclaim. But they are much more than just film makers, producers and writers. They also write and create music… so there isn’t much they can’t do.
shy kids consists of Walter Woodman, Matt Hornick and Patrick Cederberg. Having met in school, they discovered their mutual love for eclectic pop music and experimental creativity, which lead them to the masterpiece that is Lofty! Having spent almost three years in their one-bedroom loft in Kensington Market, they decided to name their album after the place where all the magic was created. With influences from various artists, their biggest influence is the ecclectic neighbourhood of Kensington, which has inspired them to create their own unique sound. The bands’ personality can be described (by the band themselves) as “cutie pies with stars in their eyes who want to change the world – in a Kayne West sort of way, without all the rants and cockiness!”
shy kids not only put this unreal album together consisting of endless ambitious anthems, they also animated the entire video for their lead single “Rockets,” which is made ENTIRELY out of candy….. and no I am not kidding, the video literally consists of every candy you could imagine from your childhood! This amazing video is the perfect demonstration of their concept for film, future music and inventive live experiences that shows how crazy, contagious, and ironically NOT shy their imagination truly is.
This band is going to be HUGE. This is a must listen!
