Our host Sharon Bhella got the opportunity to chat with new up and coming artist, Sara Hartman as they chat about being a pop star in Berlin, her new EP, her experience during Canadian Music Week, her music styles and much more.
Congrats on the huge success on “Monster Lead Me Home” you have over 4.5 million streams, also you have a new EP out “Satellite”! Can you tell us what are some of the best parts of being a pop artist based in Berlin? Most difficult?
First let me say that simply being based in Berlin is deeply inspiring. Right around this time of year the entire city blooms. Suddenly the street are full of people eating outside at cafes or drinking beer and playing loud techno, it comes alive, it’s amazing to witness. The best part of being an pop artist in Berlin is the constant input of interesting and off the beaten path things. Everything is a little bit weird, the city definitely keeps you on your toes! The difficult bit for me in particular is that it is very far from home and I miss my friends and family a lot. But Berlin is starting to feel like another home to me now.
How was your Canadian Music Week experience?
Really awesome! A little chaotic but the crazy ones often turn out to be my favorite shows! It was really cool being able to come back to the Drake, and it looked like every single venue on Queens street was packed. It was awesome to see.
How would you describe your music/style in 3 words?
Danceable, vulnerable, and organically powerful.
What are you most excited about for the upcoming months?
The release of my debut album is really really exciting for me. It comes out in September which is sneaking right up on me! This past year has been really intense, I moved halfway around the world to follow my dream. I have never felt so alone before in my life, but at the same time I felt like I was connected to something so much bigger than me. I learned more about myself than I ever really wanted to! I put it all in to this album. I can’t wait to share it.
What are you a Bestfan of?
Hungover Sunday brunch after a great night out.
