Our team had the chance to check out Canadian latin music artist Alx Veliz for his first headliner show at The Mod Club last night, which also happened to be sold out! Check out our review of the show here!
Veliz was born and raised in Canada to Guatemalan parents and signed a worldwide deal with Universal Music back in 2015. Since then, his hit single “Dancing Kizomba” has already reached gold in Spain! To top things off, he also joined The Fenix Tour with some pretty big latin music artists this summer including Nicky Jam, De La Ghetto, and Zion & Lennox. His first EP “Love Has No Language” was released this past April both entirely in English and Spanish! We think it’s pretty cool that he decided to translate his music in both languages, and it’s definitely helping him spread his music to a larger audience this way!
Before the Latin singer took the stage, 21 year-old Lucas Di Pasquale warmed up the crowd, singing his latest single “Pager” from his upcoming debut album. Back in 2014, the musician became a viral sensation on YouTube after uploading a Popcaan Mashup and next thing you know, he’s singing alongside artists like Kardi and Popcaan himself! Di Pasquale’s genre is best described as dancehall/reggae, however he’s always been into different styles of music and enjoys listening to artists who can play an instrument and tell a story through their music and lyrics.
As the venue slowly started getting packed, up and coming Toronto artist Pluto kept the crowd going while performing a few of his songs. The R&B/soul singer has been receiving recognition since dropping his EP titled Just 4 Now‘ which features a duet with rising Toronto rapper John River.
If I had to sum up last night’s Alx Veliz concert in just a few words, I wouldn’t even know where to begin! The singer can definitely put on a show; his talent and his interaction with the fans was just incredible! Before heading to the show, I had only heard of his single “Dancing Kizomba“. When I arrived at the concert, I felt like I was at a huge party. His energy had everyone on their feet, including Toronto native Kardinal Offishall, who joined Veliz onstage and brought us back in time performing his hit single “Dangerous”. Alx even had the girls from his “Dancing Kizomba” video on stage with him to help get everyone dancing. There were a lot of proud family and friends in the crowd as well as some very happy fans who got to take selfies with Alx mid concert when he decided to sit on the edge of the stage and sing to them.
Overall we had a great time at the show and felt all the good vibes filling the venue! Be sure to checkout Alx’s new EP “Love Has No Language” here!
