Embrace Presents brought TIME Festival to Toronto at the Fort York Garrison Commons. Standing out from the artist lineup was r&b songstress Kehlani and rap native Joey Badass. Each doing their own part to propel the urban scene in the city, pulling a killer performance on stage. The festival grounds, which was home to the 1812 war has been transformed into quite a few boutique festivals in Toronto this summer.
Bringing a trendy, yet urban vibe to the mid-city festival grounds surrounded by skyscrapers and city condos. TIME festival this year also introduced an EDM component with an entire area dedicated to electronic music. However, the highlight of the festival was none other than the vocal r&b power-house Kehlani.
The Oakland songstress has gained quite some attention in Canada due to her sultry tunes and urban alternative sound quite popular among the urban, rap crowd. She touches down in Toronto just in time for the release of her new song, Gangster in the feature film, the Suicide Squad. Kehlani took the stage with poise and her total bad girl attitude riffing hits like Yet, N****s and more.
The artist has gained much media frenzy north of the woods due to her on-off relationship with Mississauga artist Party Next Door and her open Instagram announcement about her suicide attempt.
Controversy aside, the artist is greatly celebrated because of her bad ass vocals and open hearted lyrics about her challenges and adversity as an independent women making her way up the success ladder and real life struggles.
Perhaps that’s why producers at Warner Bros decided to use her vocals on Gangster, to introduce the critical role of Harley Qinn, in the trailer of the superhero feature film.
Kehlani’s performance was a welcoming sight in Toronto by taking TIME Festival by storm!
