Movie Review: The Bounce Back

Everyone’s favourite “Baby Boy” Shemar Moore spent a few days in Toronto last weekend to promote his fan-funded Indiegogo movie: ‘The Bounce Back.’

Moore started the Indiegogo campaign back in 2013 with a goal to raise enough funds to cover the costs of the film, which he would star in and produce. After raising over $630,000 through generous donations from fans, and a long wait, the film will finally be released to select theatres on December 9, 2016.

BestFan had a chance to attend the Toronto red carpet premiere screening of The Bounce Back to give our readers a first glance at the film.

The Bounce Back follows the life of Matthew Taylor (Shemar Moore). Taylor is a self-made relationship expert who penned a book titled “The Bounce Back”, after seemingly ‘bouncing back’ from his failed marriage a few years prior. While on a book tour to promote his new bestseller, Taylor seems to think he has juggling being a father, relationship expert, and ladies man all figured out, until a woman by the name of Kristin (played by Nadine Velasquez) in the audience of one of his talk show appearances challenges his ideas, and uses her therapist background to try to prove he’s nothing but a fake.

In a turn of events, talk shows suddenly request that Kristin and Matthew appear on their shows together in an effort to boost their ratings, and no longer want Taylor to appear on their shows on his own. In order to save his ‘bestseller’ status, Matthew agrees, but all his intentions change when he instead starts to fall for Kristin, and has to learn how to truly get over his past relationship.

Overall, The Bounce Back is your typical heartwarming romantic comedy. Being funded completely by fans, this movie turned out incredibly better than what I was expecting to see. Filming was high quality with good camera angles and took place in Los Angeles and New York (with Shemar telling us to save budget, some scenes were filmed quickly and without a permit in NY). The acting and chemistry between characters was surprisingly good, and the storyline was cute and funny. Moore also told us that there was a possibility for a sequel, providing the film does well in theatres.

Overall, 7/10.

The Bounce Back is in theatres December 9! Will we see you there?
