King Reign – “Santa Romeo”

King Reign Santa Romeo

The late King Reign was more than a hip-hop artist, he was a poet and an MC’s MC. Sadly, the infamous Canadian hip-hop artist passed away in Toronto on June 28, not before  garnering and collaborating with acclaimed hip-hop artists such as Saukrates, Drake, Mos Def and Pharoahe Monch.

He may not be widely known to those outside of Toronto’s hip-hop community, but Reign was a Juno-nominated major label artist whose influence can be seen in many of Toronto’s resident emcees from Maestro Fresh Wes to Drake. He was a celebrated and major force in the Canadian hip-hop community and today to celebrate his legacy, they have released the first of many unreleased tracks from Reign.

His brand new single, “Santa Romeo” was produced by Darp Malone, with a DJ Skratch Bastid drum edit and also features Ivana Santilli on the horn. The track brings that old Canadian hip-hop flavor, while taking its listener on a whimsical yet familar adventure as King Reign finds himself caught in a situation many of us have been in, as he soulfully sings, “she loves me, she loves me not”.

The single,“Santa Romeo” will be accompanied with a upcoming animated video set to release in the upcoming weeks. We can expect more unreleased music on the way, but keep Canadian hip-hop alive and support the single. You can purchase the single via iTunes.
