Every year the CNE is the place to be to end off the summer on a fun note- from crazy food combinations, to carnival games, rides and shopping. However, our favourite part each year has to be the bandshell concerts! Especially when some of Canada’s best country artists are performing! This year, we had the opportunity to check out Brett Kissel at the CNE. He’s the pride of Flatlake, Alberta and we’re about to tell you why!
From growing up working on the family cattle farm, to now touring the world Brett has achieved a lot since his major label debut back in 2013. Kissel was the first country artist to win the Breakout Artist Juno award in 17 years. He’s also won several CCMA awards!
During his set at the CNE he played songs off his latest album “Pick Me Up” as well as older tunes from “Started with a Song”. You can tell how much his family means to him when he performs “I Didn’t Fall In Love With Your Hair” which is dedicated to his mother, a multiple cancer survivor. He also dedicated his set to his father, who at the time of the set was in the hospital. His music is very relatable and filled with positive messages. Not only has he been busy touring, his family has also been growing! Brett and his wife Cecilia welcomed their second baby girl Aria born earlier this summer in May.
His newest single “Cool With That” has been on my Spotify playlist all summer, let us know what you think of on twitter @bestfan.
