The Backstreet Boys are back and most definitely still got it going on after all these years! Streets were absolutely packed as thousands of fans made their way to the Scotiabank Arena to see their favourite boyband return for the DNA World Tour. It was truly a night to remember! Here are some of our favourite moments along with photos.
The night started off with Baylee Littrell, son of Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell taking the stage. The 16 year old rising country star sang 6 songs for us including “Boxes”, “Don’t Knock It” and his latest single “We Run This Beach”. We also had a chance to chat with Baylee for BestFan TV, so stay tuned for that interview!
After Baylee’s set, the excitement continued to build as the arena filled up completely for a sold out show. With sparkly lights highlighting all album titles it was pretty incredible to see just how many successes the boys have had over the years. They introduced the show with “Everyone” from their Black and Blue album into “I Wanna Be With You” off their very first self-titled album. After that, they performed “The Call” which led into those impressive boyband choreographed dance routines we all adore. Happiness level 10000.
The first half of the show included many of their slower songs as well such as “Show Me The Meaning of Being Lonely” and “Incomplete”. Nick Carter thanked fans for their support over the past 26 years and especially wanted to thank Toronto for being one of the first cities to embrace the Backstreet Boys. He recalled the memories of half the city shutting down for their Much Music outdoor performance which happened before they performed at Time Square for the Millennium album.
AJ and Kevin also spent some time during another break to talk about their memories of Toronto and how appreciative they are of the continuous support. They also talked about one of their favourite music videos featuring their families for their single “No Place” off their latest album DNA. This was all done as they changed on stage while “shielding everyone from their dad bods”.
At the half way mark, the boys left the stage while an impressive remix of all their greatest hits played on the screens with futuristic graphics. When they came back on stage they started off on a high energy note with “Everybody (Backstreets Back)” and the hits just continued from there covering songs like “We’ve Got It Goin On”, “It’s Gotta Be You”, “That’s The Way I Like It” and “Get Another Boyfriend”.
The boys of BSB played over 30 songs all while keeping up with the high energy choreography they used to perform nearly 20 years ago. Impressed is an understatement when I think about last night. What a fantastic show!
At one point Nick recapped how old each Backstreet Boy was when they first formed the band. Brian was 18, Howie was 19, Kevin was 21, AJ was 14 and Nick was only 12 years old. It’s hard to imagine how much pressure these guys were under at such a young age, but we are extremely thankful to see them all well and still touring / releasing amazing music.
We can’t wait for the next time the Backstreet Boys are back in Toronto. Until then, we will look back at these photos and smile remembering what a great night we had at the DNA world tour.
